Sevenhill cellars
See where Clare Valley wine production began at Jesuit's Sevenhill Cellars. The cellars were founded in 1851 to produce sacramental wine. They still distribute to churches across Australia and Asia. Explore the Clare Valley's oldest winery and visit the magnificent Saint Aloysius Church and crypt.
The Riesling Trail:
Follow the Riesling Trail and taste the wines of the Clare Valley. It follows the old railway line and journeys through some of South Australia's most stunning wine country and bush scenery. Keep an eye out for native birds, lazy lizards and inquisitive kangaroos.
Burra's mine of information:
Take Burra's Heritage Passport Trail. Start at the Visitor Information Centre to collect your guidebook and key. Drive past fascinating sites. Learn why Burra was once South Australia's copper central. The route includes Redruth Gaol, the Monster Mine and "Creek Street", where people lived in dugouts along the riverbank.
Martindale's hall of fame:
Return to a bygone era at Martindale Hall. The lovingly restored 1879 mansion was featured in the hit 1970s Australian film, “Picnic at Hanging Rock”. Take a tour through the majestic rooms of Martindale Hall.
Cellar door restaurants:
Drink fine Clare Valley wine and dine in restaurants at the cellar door. Some of the best include Skillogalee, with its cottage charm; the courtyard dining of Neagles Rock Vineyards; and the seafood and steak of Salt 'n' Vines Bar and Bistro at Kirrihill Estates.
Kapunda's Cornish charm:
See where Australia's first major mine was developed. Meet the towering sculpture of Map Kernow, the Cornish miner at Kapunda. Pick up a Kapunda Heritage Trail brochure and discover a town steeped in history. Duck into a bakery for a traditional Cornish pasty. You can get a great Sunday lunch at the Wheatsheaf pub.
Mintaro:
This village is a part of a State Heritage Listed area and one you’ll love to visit while you’re in the area. Stroll through the streets to discover old stone churches, cottage gardens and antique shops. Visit nearby Martindale Hall and the Mintaro Maze.
